    How the Evening Runs

The guide sets the evening in a fixed order: dinner, then the show, then an hour at the tables once the curtain falls. Everything takes place in one building, Casino Nova Scotia Halifax, found on the downtown waterfront at 1983 Upper Water St. Have a question before heading out? Call the casino at 902.425.7777. Great Canadian Entertainment has operated the casino for more than 20 years on behalf of the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation, the provincial Crown corporation.

A change is coming. The province intends to relocate the Halifax casino to Dartmouth Crossing, into a new building. In the meantime, the waterfront building operates as normal, and this guide is built around it.

    At the table

    Before the Show, Dinner

Dinner comes first, and 3Sixty is the casino's restaurant and lounge. It has a bar and a menu of appetizers, entrées and desserts. Its buffet is laid out on Fridays and Saturdays only; on other nights it is not set out. May Garden is the second restaurant in the casino, and the operator describes it as a Chinese restaurant.

And what about the hours? Opening hours for 3Sixty, its buffet and May Garden are not posted. A call to 902.425.7777 before the evening confirms a dinner table. On a Friday or Saturday, the same call can cover the buffet.

    The show

    Curtain at the Bruce Guthro

Inside the casino, the Bruce Guthro Theatre has its own stage built in for good, a bar of its own and grand chandeliers overhead. Set out in rows, it seats up to 650. For what is on, the theatre's own page on greatcanadian.com is the place to look, with the shows listed there. Ticketmaster is the only seller, accessible seats included, and where those seats sit changes from show to show. The theatre itself is accessible.

On the night of a show, the box office doors open 60 minutes ahead of each performance. Payment can be made by debit, American Express, Mastercard or Visa; cash is not taken. All theatre events are for guests 19 and over, and the area immediately around the theatre is also 19+ only.

    After the curtain

    Tables After the Curtain

Once the curtain comes down, which tables are still dealing? Main-floor tables run every day from 2 p.m. to 3 a.m., with Roulette, Blackjack, Ultimate Texas Hold'em and Free Bet Blackjack. On Friday and Saturday a Let It Ride table is added. The high-limit area keeps a later clock, 5 p.m. to 4 a.m. daily, for Ruyi Baccarat, Roulette, Blackjack and Ultimate Texas Hold'em. On Atlantic time, those closing hours land early on the following calendar day.

From Wednesday to Saturday, poker runs 4 p.m. to 2 a.m., offering Pot-Limit Omaha and No Limit Texas Hold'em. How busy the floor is decides which games run and what the table minimums are. Hours for the slot floor are not posted, so call 902.425.7777 for that.

    ID and the Bag Question

Guests of 19 or older get in by showing valid photo identification from a government, whether passport, provincial ID card or driver's licence. Look younger than 30? Staff may request a second valid piece of ID, which can be another government photo ID, a debit or credit card, or a provincial health card.

What about the bag? Bags and backpacks do not go into the entertainment venue. Two kinds are let through: a small clutch no larger than 5 x 12 x 18 cm, or a clear bag no larger than 8 x 35 x 35 cm. Parking on site is paid, and the price is not published.

    Player's Club

The Card on a Show Night

The Player's Club card is used at both Nova Scotia casinos and costs nothing. A guest 19 or older shows valid government photo ID and fills in a short application. On a dinner-and-show night, benefits can include member pricing on food, points spent on food and play-based comps for show tickets. Every benefit depends on play, and none is guaranteed.

Levels run Bronze, Silver, Gold and Privé, set by points from the previous six-month period. January to June sets the level for July to December, and the other way round.

    Online Play in the Province

Playing online is a different topic from a night on the waterfront. Atlantic Lottery operates alc.ca, Nova Scotia's provincially regulated online site, on behalf of the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation (NSGC). An online casino was added in July 2022, followed later by a live casino, and Atlantic Lottery products are 19+. Nova Scotia runs no scheme to license or register private online casinos.
