Theatre Evening at Casino Nova Scotia

For the show part of an evening at the casino, the guide works from the rules of the room, not from a playbill. What is on sits on the theatre's own page, and this guide covers everything around it.

The room

Chandeliers, stage and bar

Inside Casino Nova Scotia Halifax, the show room is the Bruce Guthro Theatre. It features a permanent stage, grand chandeliers and its own bar. Capacity changes with the floor setup: up to 340 guests for dinner, up to 650 in theatre rows and up to 850 standing.

And what is playing on a given night? That question belongs to the theatre's page on greatcanadian.com, where the shows are listed. This guide keeps no playbill of its own, so one link does that job.

Tickets

Ticketmaster and the box office

Tickets for the theatre are sold only through Ticketmaster. That includes the accessible seats, which are bought the same way as every other ticket. Their place in the room changes from show to show, so one night's location says nothing about the next. The theatre itself is accessible.

For every show, the box office is open from 60 minutes beforehand. Cards are the only way to pay there: debit, American Express, Mastercard and Visa. No cash is taken, which raises the obvious question: what if cash is all you carry? That is worth sorting out before leaving home. A debit card works at the window, and every ticket goes through Ticketmaster in any case.

19+

Nineteen and up in the room

All theatre events are for guests 19 and over, and both the theatre and its immediate surroundings are 19+ only. Casino entry calls for valid photo ID from a government, such as a passport, a driver's licence or a provincial ID card. What if a guest looks younger than 30? Staff may request a second piece of valid ID, so bringing two is the safer plan.

What goes in

What passes the theatre door

Bags and backpacks do not go into the entertainment venue. Two kinds get through: a small clutch no larger than 5 x 12 x 18 cm, or a clear bag no larger than 8 x 35 x 35 cm. Cameras, drones and recording devices stay out as well. Anything larger is best left at home or in the car.

Bringing food or drink from outside is not allowed; some is sold at a small concession within. The venue is entirely smoke-free, a rule that extends to cannabis, e-cigarettes and vaping. During an event, guests can step out of the theatre and return. For anything this list leaves out, call 902.425.7777.

Afterwards

When the curtain comes down

Every day, the main-floor tables operate from 2 p.m. to 3 a.m., offering Blackjack, Roulette and Free Bet Blackjack, with Let It Ride added on Friday and Saturday only. The high-limit area opens daily at 5 p.m. and closes at 4 a.m. From Wednesday to Saturday, poker is dealt from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m., covering Pot-Limit Omaha and No Limit Texas Hold'em.

Every time here is Atlantic time, the clock in Halifax. A night that starts on Saturday ends in the early hours of Sunday, so 3 a.m. falls on the next calendar day.
